My Journey to being a Cardiff based Freelancer

From centre stage to backstage

I started out as a musician. I sang in choral and band settings, as well as working on my own songwriting projects.

I quickly learnt I had an affinity for organisation and admin in music. I started to work with bands in the South Wales music scene, getting them gig opportunities, working with them to create websites and social media plans.
Like many other freelancers, I fell into promoting on a whim. This turned into creating my own freelancing business called Moomajoo Music. Under this name, I put gigs on in Cardiff venues such as North Star, Hoffi Coffi, Granny Mac’s, Paradise Gardens and Porter’s.

Currently, I am studying an Arts Management Master’s degree at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Within this I learn about Management forms, Marketing, Finance, Fundraising, Project creation and Tour management. Many of the integral cogs of knowledge that keep freelance and professional managers going, and I can’t wait to start implementing this knowledge into my freelance career.
